“I have identified agriculture as a way to deal with broad based economic development right across the country, not just for the adults in the city but also to deal with malnutrition and food security. It also deals with unemployment which is real because it creates unrest.”
President Julius Maada Bio (Sierra Leone)
The Hope and Kindness fish farm is a testament to our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and community empowerment. This is not just a farm; it’s a forward-looking project that points to a greener, more self-sufficient future for Kosele.
A Green Model for Food Production
Our farm produces Tilapia fingerlings for local fish farmers who raise them in cages on Lake Victoria. What makes our project unique is its commitment to environmental stewardship:
-
Solar Powered: The entire operation runs on clean, renewable solar energy.
-
Aquaponics: We use innovative aquaponics techniques to maintain pristine water quality. This closed-loop system is a model of efficiency and environmental care.
-
Local Employment: The farm provides full-time, skilled employment for two members of the local community.
By demonstrating and sharing these green techniques, we are empowering local farmers to increase their yields sustainably, improving both the local economy and food security.
